
CF Montreal has named Marco Donadel of Conegliano. Italy as their new head coach. This is the second time that Dondanel has been a head coach at the professional level in men’s soccer. He previously coached Ancona in Italy in 2023.
Donadel takes over from Laurent Courtois of Lyon, France. Courtois coached CF Montreal during the 2024 Major League Soccer season and the first five games of the 2025 MLS season. CF Montreal had a record of 11 wins, 13 losses and 10 draws with Courtois at the helm in 2024. They made the 2024 Eastern Conference wildcard game, but lost 5-4 on penalty kicks to Atlanta United FC after the game was tied at two goals apiece.
It has been a tough start to the 2025 MLS season for Montreal. They have lost four of their first five games, with the other result ending in a draw.
Donadel was a midfielder during his playing career. He in fact played four seasons with Montreal Impact from 2015 to 2018, and had three goals in 67 games. Donadel also had success as a player with Fiorentina, as he had four goals in 184 appearances for the Serie A team from 2005 to 2011. At the international level, Donadel also won an Olympic bronze medal for Italy at the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens.
