The Toronto Maple Leafs have tied their first round Eastern Conference playoff series with the Boston Bruins at one game apiece. On Monday at the Toronto Dominion Garden in Boston, Massachusetts, the Maple Leafs defeated the Bruins 3-2.
The Maple Leafs were led by Auston Matthews. The native of San Ramon, California had one goal and two assists for three points. He was one of two Maple Leafs players with a multi-point game. The other was Max Domi of Winnipeg, Manitoba, who had one goal and one assist for two points. The other Maple Leafs goal scorer was Canadian Olympic gold medalist John Tavares of Mississauga, Ontario. Tavares won the gold medal for Canada at the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi.
Matthews, who led the NHL in the regular season with 69 goals and 51 even strength goals, scored the game-winning goal on Monday night. Domi and Ilya Lybushkin picked up the assists at 12:06 of the third period to break a 2-2 tie. It was a strong game for Matthews, who proved he was an elite sniper. He had a game-high eight shots on goal.
The series now shifts to Scotiabank Arena in Toronto, Ontario. Game three will be on Wednesday at 5 pm MT, and game four will be on Saturday at 6 pm MT.
