Maddie Szeryk of London, Ontario remains in contention after the third round of the 2023 Drive On Championship in Grand Canyon, Arizona. On Saturday, Szeryk only shot a score of one-under-par 71, but was good enough to end the day three strokes back and in seventh place at -13. Szeryk began the third round as the leader at -12.
In the third round Szeryk had four birdies and three bogeys. She birdied the first, second, 7th and 12th holes, and bogeyed the third, fifth, and 16th holes. Szeryk found herself temporarily out of contention after her bogey on the 16th hole, but Thailand’s Moriya Jutanugarn lost the lead with bogeys on the 17th and 18th holes.
Celine Boutier of France is the leader at -16. Hae Ran Ryu of South Korea, American Alison Lee and Thailand’s Moriya Jutanugarn were one stroke back and tied for second place at -15. Two-time major champion Ariya Jutanugarn of Thailand and Norway’s Celine Borge are tied for fifth and two strokes back at -14. Ariya Jutanugarn won the 2016 Women’s British Open and the 2018 United States Women’s Open.
Szeryk is in a 12-way tie for seventh place. She is tied with Americans Cheyenne Knight, Annie Park and Lilia Vu, South Korea’s Amy Yang, Sei Young Kim, Jin-young Ko, Jenny Shin and Narin An, England’s Charley Hull and Georgia Hall, and Japan’s Hinako Shibuno. Among the 12 tied for seventh place are four major champions. Sei-Young Kim won the 2020 Women’s PGA Championship. Jin-young Ko won the 2019 ANA Inspiration and 2019 Evian Championship. Hall won the 2018 Women’s British Open and Shibuno won the 2019 Women’s British Open.
