
Washington Capitals goaltender Logan Thompson of Calgary, Alberta recorded his 10th career National Hockey League shutout on Sunday. He accomplished the feat in a 3-0 Capitals win over the Pittsburgh Penguins at the Capital One Arena in Washington, District of Columbia.
Thompson made 24 saves for the shutout. He made eight saves in the first period, 13 saves in the second period, and only three saves in the third period. It was a strong game for Capitals centre Connor McMichael of Ajax, Ontario. He was involved in all three Capitals goals as he had two goals and one assist.
Of Thompson’s 10 National Hockey League career shutouts, six have come with the Capitals, and four have been with the Vegas Golden Knights. So far this season, Thompson has a record of 31 wins, 21 regulation losses and six losses in extra time, with four shutouts, a goals against average of 2.44 and a save percentage of .912.
With the win, the Capitals kept their playoff hopes alive. The Capitals improved to a record of 42 wins, 30 regulation losses and nine losses in extra time for 93 points. They are one point back of the Flyers for the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference, and also hold the tiebreaker. Washington has Columbus left on Tuesday, while Philadelphia plays Carolina on Monday and Montreal on Tuesday.
