According to the Canadian Press on Saturday, Lirim Hajrullahu of St. Catharines, Ontario tied the Canadian Football League record for most field goals in a game with eight. He accomplished the feat in a 37-31 Argonauts win over the Montreal Alouettes on Saturday from the Bank of Montreal Field in Toronto, Ontario.
Hajrullahu made field goals from 32 yards, 17 yards, 28 yards, 11 yards, 49 yards, 35 yards, 27 yards and 37 yards. The eight field goals Hajrullahu kicked were in eight attempts, and made one convert.
Three kickers have had eight field goals in a game in the past. The first kicker to kick eight field goals in a game was Dave Ridgway of Burlington, Ontario. Ridgway accomplished the feat twice. The first time came in a 46-24 Roughriders win over the Ottawa Rough Riders on July 29, 1984, and the second time came in a 26-15 Roughriders win over Edmonton on July 23, 1988. Meanwhile, Mark McLoughlin, who is now based in Trail, British Columbia, had eight field goals in a game on August 5, 1996, in a 38-11 Stampeders win over the Saskatchewan Roughriders, and Paul Osbaldiston of Richmond, British Columbia had eight field goals in a game on September 22, 1996 in a 24-21 Hamilton Tiger-Cats win over the Ottawa Rough Riders.
For the season, Hajrullahu has made 49 of 53 field goal attempts. Toronto improved to a record of eight wins and seven losses with the win, and are in third place in the East Division.
