Liam Brearley and Florence Brunelle earn medals for Canada at 2020 Youth Olympic Winter Games

Liam Brearley of Gravenhurst, Ontario and Florence Brunelle of Trois-Rivieres, Quebec each earned medals for Canada on Monday at the 2020 Youth Olympic Winter Games in Lausanne, Switzerland. Brearley won silver in the men’s slopestyle snowboarding and Brunelle won bronze in the women’s 500 metre short track speed skating. For Brunelle, it was her second medal as she won the bronze medal on Saturday in the women’s 1000 metre short track speed skating event.

In the men’s slopestyle snowboarding, Brearley posted a second place score of 85.33 points. Dusty Henricksen of the United States won the gold medal with 96.33 points. Nick Puenter of Switzerland won the bronze medal with 66.33 points. Brearley earned a medal by 22 points as Aoto Kawakami of Japan finished in fourth place with a score of 63.33 points.

in the women’s 500 metre short track speed skating, Brunelle had a third place time of 45.314 seconds. Whi Min Seo of South Korea won the gold medal with a time of 43.483 seconds. Michelle Velzeboer of the Netherlands won the silver medal with a time of 45.235 seconds.

Team Canada now has four medals (two silver medals and two bronze medals). They are still looking for its first gold medal. The 2020 Youth Olympic Winter Games will conclude on Wednesday.
