Lia Pereira of Milton, Ontario and Trennt Michaud of Belleville, Ontario continued their fine 2023 fall figure skating season on Saturday as they won the pairs competition at the International Skating Union Grand Prix in Angers, France. Pereira and Michaud previously won the silver medal in Skate America in Allen, Texas on October 21.
Pereira and Michaud posted a winning score of 194.67 points. Sara Contii and Niccolo Macii of Italy won the silver medal with an overall score of 189.46 points. Camille and Pavel Kovalev of France won the bronze medal with 172.88 points. Pereira and Michaud reached the podium by 26.47 points over Valentina Plazas and Maximiliano Fernandez of the United States, who won the bronze medal with 168.2 points.
Team Canada won a second medal on Saturday. Laurence Fournier Beaudry and Nikolaj Sorensen of Montreal, Quebec won the silver medal in the ice dance event with 205.15 points. Charlene Puignard and Marco Fabbri of Italy won the gold medal with a score of 214.54 points. Evgeniia Lopareva and Geoffrey Brissaud of France won the bronze medal with a score of 190.82 points. Fournier Beaudry reached the podium by 18.45 points over Christina Carreira and Anthony Ponomarenko of the United States, who finished in fourth place with 186.7 points. The medals for Pereira, Michaud, Fournier Beaudry and Sorensen will give them confidence as they prepare for the 2026 Olympic Winter Games in Milan/Cortina d’Ampezzo.
