
Canadian Olympic silver medalist Laurie Blouin of Quebec City, Quebec won the bronze medal in the first World Cup women’s big air snowboarding event of the 2024-25 season on Saturday. Blouin placed third in Chur, Switzerland for her 13th World Cup snowboarding medal. She has now won two gold medals, seven silver medals and four bronze medals. Of the 13 snowboarding medals, eight have been in slopestyle and five have been in big air.
Blouin, who won the silver medal in the women’s slopestyle snowboarding event at the 2018 Olympic Winter Games in Pyeongchang, won the bronze medal by 12.25 points. She posted a score of 163 points. Kokomo Murase of Japan finished in fourth place with a score of 150.75 points. Mari Fukada of Japan won the gold medal with 181.5 points and Reira Iwabuchi of Japan won the silver medal with 167.5 points.
Blouin is the second Canadian to win a World Cup snowboarding medal this season. On September 2, Cameron Spalding of Havelock, Ontario, won the gold medal in a World Cup men’s slopestyle snowboarding event in Cardrona, New Zealand. Spalding had 82.5 points, Mons Roisland of Norway had 81.75 points, and Rocco Jamieson of New Zealand had 77.75 points. Spalding reached the podium by 7.25 points. Campbell Melville Ives of New Zealand finished in fourth place with a score of 75.25 points.
This was the third career World Cup men’s slopestyle snowboarding medal for Spalding, He previously won bronze in Calgary, Alberta, Canada on February 12, 2023, and bronze in Laax, Switzerland on January 20, 2024. The medals for Spalding and Blouin will give them confidence as they prepare for the 2026 Olympic Winter Games in Milan/Cortina d’Ampezzo.
