Week five is in the books in the Canadian Football League, and it has been an excellent start to the season for Saskatchewan Roughriders wide receiver Kian Schaffer-Baker of Mississauga, Ontario. On Friday, in the Roughriders’ 28-13 win over the Ottawa Red Blacks, Schaffer-Baker had three catches for 48 yards and one touchdown.

Schaffer-Baker closed out the scoring. He had an 18-yard touchdown catch from Roughriders quarterback Cody Fajardo with four minutes and 33 seconds left in the third quarter. There were no points scored in the entire fourth quarter.

Schaffer-Baker now has 25 catches for 274 yards and three touchdowns in 2022. He is second so far this season in touchdown catches. Schaffer-Baker trails only Dominique Rhymes of the British Columbia Lions, who has four touchdown catches. All of Rhymes’s touchdown catches this season have come from Nathan Rourke of Victoria, British Columbia.

With the win, the Roughriders improve to a record of four wins and one loss for eight points. Even though the Roughriders have only one defeat, they are only in third place in the Western Division. They trail the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, who are undefeated with a record of five wins and zero losses for 10 points, and the Calgary Stampeders, who are undefeated at four wins and zero loses for eight points.
