Pool play has been completed at the 2022 Tim Hortons Brier in Lethbridge, Alberta. In Pool A, Kevin Koe of Calgary, Alberta won the group with a record of seven wins and one loss. In Pool B, Canadian Olympic gold medalist Brad Gushue of St. John’s, Newfoundland, representing the first wildcard team, had a perfect record of eight wins and zero losses. Gushue won the gold medal for Canada at the 2006 Olympic Winter Games in Turin.
The second place teams in each pool have also been determined. In Pool A, Brendan Bottcher of Edmonton, Alberta placed second after a record of seven wins and one loss. In Pool B, Canadian Olympic gold medalist Brad Jacobs finished second with a record of six wins and two losses. Jacobs won the gold medal at the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi.
What is still undecided is who will finish in third place in each pool. In Pool A, two Saskatchewan-based teams had identical records of six wins and two losses. In Pool B, two Manitoba-based teams had identical records of five wins and three losses. The Saskatchewan teams are Colton Flasch of Saskatoon, and Matt Dunstone of Regina. The Manitoba teams are Jason Gunnlaugson of Winnipeg, Manitoba, and Mike McEwen of West St. Paul. The tie breakers go Friday morning.
