According to the Canadian Press on Thursday, Kamloops, British Columbia has been named the host city of the 2023 Scotties Tournament of Hearts. This will be the ninth time the province of British Columbia will have hosted the Canadian National Women’s Curling Championships, but the first time ever the city of Kamloops will have been the host.
In the past, Vancouver hosted the 1966 Diamond D Championship (won by Gail Lee of Edmonton) and the 1997 Scott Tournament of Hearts (won by Sandra Schmirler of Biggar, Saskatchewan). Victoria hosted the 1974 Macdonald Lassies Championship (won by Emily Farnham of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan) and the 2009 Scotties Tournament of Hearts (won by Jennifer Jones of Winnipeg, Manitoba). Prince George hosted the 1983 Scott Tournament of Hearts (won by Penny LaRocque of Halifax, Nova Scotia), and the 2000 Scott Tournament of Hearts (won by Kelley Law of Burnaby, British Columbia). Kelowna hosted the 1989 Scott Tournament of Hearts (won by Heather Houston of Thunder Bay, Ontario and represented Team Canada as the defending champion), and Penticton hosted the 2018 Scotties Tournament of Hearts (won by Jones).
Kamloops meanwhile has hosted two Briers. They hosted their first Brier in 1996 (won by Jeff Stoughton of Winnipeg, Manitoba), and the second Brier in 2014 (won by Kevin Koe of Calgary, Alberta). Kamloops hosted also hosted the 1998 World Men’s Curling Championship (won by Wayne Middaugh of Toronto, Ontario) and the 1998 World Women’s Curling Championship (won by Elisabet Gustafson of Sweden).
