
Carolina Hurricanes left winger Jordan Martinook of Brandon, Manitoba recorded his first National Hockey League Stanley Cup Playoff overtime winner on Monday. He accomplished the feat in a 3-2 Hurricanes win over the Ottawa Senators. With the win, the Hurricanes lead the Senators two games to none in the Eastern Conference first round playoff series.
Martinook’s overtime winner came at 13:53 of double overtime. Nikolaj Ehlers and defenseman K’Andre Miller had the assists. Martinook also had a penalty shot attempt in overtime, but was stopped by Senators goaltender Linus Ulmark. Martinook was tied with Andrei Svechnikov for most shots on the Hurricanes with seven.
Martinook was one of two Canadians to score for the Hurricanes in the game. Logan Stankoven of Kamloops, British Columbia opened the scoring from former first overall pick Taylor Hall of Calgary, Alberta and Jackson Blake at 6:31 of the first period on the power-play. For Stankoven, it was his second goal of the 2026 Stanley Cup Playoffs. He scored the game-winning goal in the first game of the series on Saturday. Stankoven scored from Blake and Hall at 2:31 of the first period in a 2-0 Hurricanes shutout win over the Senators.
In the 2025-26 regular season, Martinook had 12 goals and 17 assists for 29 points. He was a +6 with 35 penalty minutes, three shorthanded points, three game-winning goals, 109 shots on goal, 32 faceoff wins, 50 blocked shots, 112 hits, 14 takeaways, and 45 giveaways. After two games of the 2026 Stanley Cup Playoffs, Martinook has one goal, one game-winning goal, nine shots on goal, two blocked shots, nine hits, one takeaway and two giveaways.
Game three of the series will be at the Canadian Tire Centre in Ottawa, Ontario on Thursday. Game four of the series will be in Ottawa on Saturday afternoon.
