Jamie Benn leads Dallas Stars to second round opening win over Avalanche

Canadian Olympic gold medalist Jamie Benn of Victoria, British Columbia led the Dallas Stars in scoring on Saturday in game one of the Western Conference semifinals. Benn, who won a gold medal for Canada at the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi, had three assists as the Dallas Stars defeated the Colorado Avalanche 5-3 from Rogers Place in Edmonton, Alberta.

Benn had an assist on one goal by Tyler Seguin of Brampton, Ontario, and two assists on two goals by Alexander Radulov. The second goal by Radulov, the former Montreal Canadien, turned out to be the game winning goal at 9:09 of the second period, which put Dallas up 4-2 at the time.

Seguin also had a multi-point game as he notched one goal and one assist for two points. Radulov finished the evening with two goals and one assist for three points. Meanwhile, Blake Comeau of Meadow Lake, Saskatchewan also scored for Dallas, at 9:51 of the first period to put Dallas up 2-1. After Comeau’s goal, Dallas would never relinquish the lead. With the win, the Stars now lead the Avalanche one game to none in the best out of seven series. Game two of the series is back in Edmonton on Monday night.
