Canadian Olympic bronze medalist and World men’s super giant slalom champion James Crawford of Toronto, Ontario won his fourth career World Cup medal on Saturday. It was a silver medal in the men’s downhill at Aspen. Colorado.
Crawford posted a time of 1:32.21. Aleksander Aamodt Kilde of Norway won the gold medal with a time of 1:31.60. Marco Odermatt of Switzerland won the bronze medal with a time of 1:32.23. Crawford reached the podium by nine one-hundredths of a second. Vincent Kriechmayr of Austria finished in fourth place with a time of 1:32.30.
In the World Cup men’s downhill standings, Crawford is in fifth place with 306 points. Kilde is the World Cup leader with 720 points. There is one more World Cup men’s downhill race this season. That will take place in Soldeu, Andorra on March 15.
Three of four Crawford’s World Cup medals have been silver medals. He also finished second in a men’s super giant slalom World Cup in Kvitfjell, Norway on March 6, 2022, and second in a men’s World Cup downhill in Bormio, Italy on December 28, 2022. Crawford’s other World Cup medal was a bronze medal in a World Cup downhill in Beaver Creek, Colorado on December 3, 2022.
Crawford finished third in the men’s alpine combined at the 2022 Olympic Winter Games in Beijing. He also won the World Championship gold medal in the men’s super giant slalom last month in Courchevel, France. The silver medal for Crawford will give him confidence as he prepares for the 2026 Olympic Winter Games in Milan/Cortina d’Ampezzo.
