James Crawford of Toronto, Ontario has won Canada’s ninth medal at the 2022 Olympic Winter Games in Beijing. On Thursday, Crawford won the bronze medal in the men’s alpine combined, becoming the first Canadian to win a medal in this alpine skiing event.
Crawford posted a time of 2:32.11. Johannes Strolz of Austria won the gold medal with a time of 2:31.43 and Aleksander Aamodt Kilde of Norway won the silver medal with a time of 2:32.02. Crawford reached the podium by 0.18 seconds over Justin Murisier of Switzerland, who had a fourth place time of 2:32.29.
Crawford had a time of 1:43.14 in the downhill, and a time of 48.97 seconds in the slalom. He had the second fastest time in the downhill, and seventh fastest time in the slalom.
It was a solid day for two other Canadians as Broderick Thompson of North Vancouver, British Columbia finished in eighth place, and Brodie Seger of North Vancouver, British Columbia finished in ninth place. The only other nation with three skiers in the top 10 was Austria. Broderick Thompson’s sister Marielle won a gold medal in women’s ski cross at the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi.
In an interesting tidbit, Johannes Strolz also has a Canadian connection. His father Hubert won the gold medal for Austria in the men’s combined and silver in the men’s giant slalom at the 1988 Olympic Winter Games in Calgary.
