Week seven is now in the books of the Canadian Football League season, and two Canadian wide receivers recorded touchdowns on winning teams. They were Luther Hakunavanhu of Toronto, Ontario, and Jalen Philpot of Delta, British Columbia.
Hakunavanhu is in his first season with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats after the last three seasons with the Calgary Stampeders. On Saturday, he had a 23-yard touchdown catch for the Tiger-Cats in a 27-24 Hamilton upset win over the Toronto Argonauts. It was his only catch of the game, and at the time but the Tiger-Cats up 27-10. Hakunavanhu’s touchdown was on the final play of the third quarter. This was Hamilton’s first win of the season after five consecutive losses. On the season, Hakunavanhu now has four catches for 48 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
Philpot is in his third season with the Stampeders. On Sunday, he also had a 23-yard touchdown catch. Philpot’s major score came from Jake Maier with two minutes and 34 seconds left in the second quarter in a 25-24 Stampeders win over the British Columbia Lions. At the time, Philpot’s converted touchdown put the Stampeders up 14-7. In the game, Philpot had six catches for 79 receiving yards and one touchdown, along with one run for nine yards. On the season, Philpot has 17 catches for 240 receiving yards and one touchdown. With the win, the Stampeders improve to a record of three wins and three losses, and are in third place in the West Division.
