Brooke Henderson wins Lotte Championship in Hawaii

Brooke Henderson of Smiths Falls, Ontario won her sixth LPGA event of her career on Saturday at the Lotte Championship in Kapolei, Hawaii. Henderson posted a four round score of -12 to beat Azahara Munoz of Spain by four strokes.

Henderson was four under par in the first round, six under par in the second round, one over par in the third round and three under par in the fourth round. In the final round, Henderson had four birdies and one bogey.

Henderson opened the Lotte Championship with two excellent rounds where she did not record a bogey. In the first 36 holes, Henderson had 10 birdies. The third day of the event was a bit of a struggle however as she had three bogeys and one double bogey.

With the win, Henderson moves from 14th to 13th in the Rolex World Rankings. She passed American Michelle Wie. Shanshan Feng of China is currently the number one women’s golfer in the world.

This was Henderson’s first win on the LPGA Tour in 2018. She had two victories in 2017. The first came in Grand Rapids, Michigan on June 18 and the second came in New Zealand on October 2.

Throughout the tournament Henderson paid tribute to the victims of the Humboldt Broncos bus crash. She wore a green and yellow ribbon in her hair.
