The Hamilton Bulldogs have reached the 2022 Memorial Cup Final, where on Wednesday they will face the host Saint John Sea Dogs. On Monday in the 2022 Memorial Cup semifinal from Saint John, New Brunswick, the Bulldogs defeated the Shawinigan Cataractes 4-3 in overtime.
Jan Mysak scored the game-winning goal at 10:08 of the extra period from Nathan Staios of Oakville, Ontario, and Patrick Thomas of Hamilton, Ontario. Nathan Staios is the son of former National Hockey League defenseman Steve Staios of Hamilton, Ontario. Steve Staios played 1001 NHL regular season games with the Boston Bruins, Vancouver Canucks, Atlanta Thrashers, Edmonton Oilers, Calgary Flames, and New York Islanders from 1995 to 2012.
In the Memorial Cup semifinal, two Canadians led the Bulldogs in scoring with two points. Mason McTavish of Carp, Ontario had one goal and one assist for two points. Ryan Winterton of Markham, Ontario had two assists. The other Bulldogs goal scorers were Logan Morrison of Guelph, Ontario and Artem Grushnikov.
Three times during the Memorial Cup semifinal, the game was tied. The game was deadlocked at one goal, two goals, and three goals apiece.
In the round robin portion of the tournament, the Sea Dogs opened the Memorial Cup with a 5-3 win over the Bulldogs on June 20. Saint John previously won the Memorial Cup in 2011.
