Former NHL right winger Pierre Plante dies at 75

Former National Hockey League right winger Pierre Plante of Valleyfield, Quebec passed away at the age of 75 on Sunday according to J.A. Larin Funeral Homes on Friday. Plante played nine seasons in the National Hockey League from 1971 to 1980.

Plante was with five NHL franchises. He played with the Philadelphia Flyers for two seasons from 1971 to 1972, the St. Louis Blues for five seasons from 1972 to 1977, the Chicago Black Hawks for one season from 1977 to 1978, the New York Rangers for one season from 1978 to 1979, and the Quebec Nordiques for one season from 1979 to 1980.

In 588 regular season games, Plante had 125 goals and 172 assists for 297 points. He was a -33 with 599 penalty minutes, 38 power-play points, 17 game-winning goals, three shorthanded points and 948 shots on goal.

Plante had two goals and six assists for eight points in 33 postseason games. He had 51 penalty minutes, one shorthanded point and 39 shots on goal. The postseason shorthanded point came in a 6-0 Rangers win over the Philadelphia Flyers in game four of the NHL quarterfinals. Plante had a shorthanded assist as he set up Eddie Johnstone of Brandon, Manitoba at 11:39 of the third period to close out the scoring.

In the 1971 NHL Draft, Plante was a first round pick. He was selected ninth overall by the Flyers. Plante played his junior career with the Drummondville Rangers of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League.
