Flames left winger Josh Leivo tests positive for coronavirus

According to the Canadian Press on Friday, Calgary Flames left winger Josh Leivo of Innisfill, Ontario tested positive for coronavirus. As a result, the Flames morning skate was cancelled, and all other Flames players and staff members tested negative. Leivo meanwhile was placed in isolation.

In 36 games this season, Leivo had five goals and two assists for seven points. He was a -5 with 10 penalty minutes, two game-winning goals, 48 shots on goal, three faceoff wins, two blocked shots, 32 hits, 16 takeaways, and 10 giveaways. Leivo’s game-winning goals came in a 7-3 Flames win over the Ottawa Senators on March 4, and in a 2-1 Flames win over the Montreal Canadiens on March 11.

There have been 179,000 cases of coronavirus in the province of Alberta. There have also been 2,059 deaths.

The Flames proceeded with their game on Friday night at the Scotiabank Saddledome. The Flames beat the Canadiens 4-2. Sean Monahan of Brampton, Ontario led the team in scoring with three points, as he had one goal and two assists. Andrew Mangiapane of Bolton, Ontario also had a multi-point game as he had one goal and one assist for two points. The other Flames goal scorers were Dillon Dube of Golden, British Columbia, and Elias Lindholm.

With the win, the Flames improved to a record of 20 wins, 23 regulation losses, and three losses in extra time. They have 43 points, and six points back of the Canadiens for a playoff spot in the North Division.
