We now know who will be the two finalists on the men’s side and women’s side at the 2024 Points Bet Invitational at the Markin MacPhail Centre in Calgary, Alberta on Sunday. On the women’s side, Rachel Homan of Ottawa, Ontario is facing Kayla Skrlik of Calgary. Then on the men’s side, Brad Gushue of St. John’s, Newfoundland is facing Mike McEwen of Winnipeg, Manitoba, who is now skipping a team based out of Saskatchewan.
In the semifinals on Saturday, Skrlik steamrolled past Kate Cameron of Winnipeg, Manitoba 10-4. It was quite simply a dominant second half of the match for Skrlik, as she had three points in the seventh end and four points in the ninth end.
Meanwhile, Homan defeated Kaitlyn Lawes of Winnipeg, Manitoba 10-5. Homan got off to a great start as she scored three points in the second end and two points in the fourth end to take a 5-1 lead. Homan also scored five points in the second half of the match, as she had two points in the eighth end and three points in the 10th end.
On the men’s side, McEwen clobbered Brad Jacobs’s Calgary-based team 10-3. McEwen had four points in the fourth end when Jacobs missed his final shot. Gushue, meanwhile scored the last three points of the match in a 9-7 win over Jordon McDonald of Winnipeg.
