Felix Auger-Aliassime reaches semifinals of 2020 Rotterdam Open

Felix Auger-Aliassime of Montreal, Quebec is in the semifinals of the 2020 ABN AMRO Tennis Tournament in Rotterdam, Netherlands.His opponent on Saturday will be Pablo Carreno Busta of Spain.

Currently ranked 21st in the world, Auger-Aliassime has had a fortunate draw so far in the tournament. He has been the highest ranked player in each of his three games. Auger-Aliassme has beaten the 33rd ranked Jan-Lennard Struff of Germany 6-3, 1-6, 6-3 in the first round, the 22nd ranked Grigor Dimitrov of Bulgaria 6-4, 6-2 in the second round and then the 52nd ranked Aljaz Bedene of Slovenia 6-4, 7-6 in the quarterfinals.

Auger-Aliassime will once again face a lower ranked player in the semifinals. Carreno Busta is 30th in the world. This will be their first career meeting.

Auger-Aliassime made an interesting decision when it came to his schedule. He decided to attend the tournament in Rotterdam this week instead of the tournament in Rio de Janeiro next week, despite reaching the final in Brazil a year ago. In 2018, Auger-Aliassime made tennis history when he became the youngest player ever to reach the final of an ATP Tour 500 point event. Auger-Aliassime ended up losing 6-3, 7-5 to Laslo Djere of Serbia. The other semifinal at the Rotterdam Open has Gael Monfils of France against Filip Krajinovic of Serbia.
