Dustin Tokarski of Watson, Saskatchewan recorded his second career National Hockey League shutout on Friday. Tokarski made 24 saves as the Buffalo Sabres upset the Calgary Flames 1-0 in overtime at the Scotiabank Saddledome in Calgary, Alberta.

Tokarski made six saves in the first period, eight saves in the second period, and 10 saves in the third period. Tokarski’s previous shutout came in a 2-0 Montreal Canadiens win over the Buffalo Sabres on March 16, 2014.

In the Sabres win over the Flames, Calgary defenseman Oscar Kylington (pronounced Shillington) of Stockholm, Sweden led the Flames with four shots on goal. The Sabres received a huge gift in extra time as Flames goaltender Jacob Markstrom completely misplayed the puck, and gave the puck right to Tage Thompson, who scored at 3:07 of the additional period. For Thompson, it was his first ever game-winning goal in his five-year NHL career. Tage Thompson is the son of former NHL defenceman Brent Thompson of Calgary, Alberta, who played six seasons wit the Los Angeles Kings, Winnipeg Jets and Phoenix Coyotes from 1991 to 1997.

Tokarski has played 21 games for the Sabres this season. He has a record of six wins, nine regulation losses and four losses in extra time. Tokarski has a goals against average of 3.09, and a save percentage of .906.

In other hockey news, Edmonton will host the 2022 World Junior Men’s Hockey Championship in the summer. The dates for the tournament have not been disclosed.
