
Ottawa Senators centre Drake Batherson of New Minas, Nova Scotia recorded his second career National Hockey League hat trick on Wednesday. He accomplished the feat in a 5-1 Ottawa Senators victory over the Anaheim Ducks at the Canadian Tire Centre in Kanata, Ontario.
Batherson accomplished the natural hat trick on Wednesday as he scored three consecutive goals. Batherson’s first goal was the game-winning goal and came at 11:55 on the power play from Tim Stutzle and Jake Sanderson to put the Senators up 2-0. Batherson then put the Senators up 3-0 on the power play from Brady Tkachuk and Josh Norris with one minute and 35 seconds left in the opening frame. Batherson then scored the only goal in the second period. It was an unassisted marker at 10:30 of the second period to put the Senators up 4-0.
In the third period, Batherson added an assist on a power play goal by Tkachuk. For Batherson, he finished the game with four points. This was the fourth time in his career Batherson had four points in a game. The other times were on October 25, 2021 (three goals and one assist) in a 7-5 Senators loss to the Washington Capitals, on November 13, 2021 (two goals and two assists) in a 6-3 Senators win over the Pittsburgh Penguins, and on December 14, 2021 (one goal and three assists) in an 8-2 Senators win over the Florida Panthers.
During the 2024-25 season, Batherson now has 12 goals and 20 assists for 32 points in 28 games. He is a -1 with 10 penalty minutes, 16 power play points, two game-winning goals, 64 shots on goal, four faceoff wins, nine blocked shots, 48 hits, 10 takeaways, and 18 giveaways. Batherson’s other game-winning goal this season came in a 4-0 Senators win over the Utah Ice Hockey Club on October 22.
With the win, the Senators improve to a record of 13 wins, 13 regulation losses, and two losses in extra time for 28 points. They are two points back of the Tampa Bay Lightning for a playoff spot.
