
Denis Shapovalov of Toronto, Ontario, reached the final of the 2026 Los Cabos Open in Mexico on Sunday. This was the second straight year that Shapovalov reached the final of the Los Cabos Open. However, unlike last year where he defeated American Aleksandar Kovacevic in the final, Shapovalov lost in the final this year to Arthur Gea of France, 6-3, 6-4.
This was Shapovalov’s first final of 2026. He has now been to 10 ATP Finals in his career, and has a record of four wins and six losses. Shapovalov’s other three ATP final victories came at the 2019 Stockholm Open, the 2024 Belgrade Open, and the 2025 Dallas Open.
Shapovalov was the eighth seed in Los Cabos. His most impressive victory came in the semifinals as he defeated the fifth seed Cameron Norrie of Great Britain, 6-3, 5-7, 6-4. Int the semifinals match, Shapovalov had the service advantage. He had nine aces and three double faults. Norrie had one ace and six double faults. This was the first time in three head-to-head meetings that Shapovalov defeated Norrie.
Shapovalov and Norrie have both reached the semifinals of Wimbledon in the past. Shapovalov reached the semifinals of Wimbledon in 2021 and Norrie reached the semifinals of Wimbledon in 2022. Currently, Shapovalov is ranked 43rd in the world.
