
Darcy Kuemper of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan recorded his National Hockey League leading third shutout of the 2022-23 regular season on Tuesday as the Washington Capitals defeated the New York Rangers 4-0 at Madison Square Garden in New York City, New York. Kuemper made 32 saves in the process.
Of Kuemper’s 32 saves, 13 saves happened in the first period, seven saves happened in the second period, and 12 saves happened in the third period. In 2022-23, Kuemper also shutout the Nashville Predators 3-0 on October 29, and the Calgary Flames 3-0 on November 25. Kuemper is one of five goaltenders in the NHL to have three shutouts this season. He is joined by Ilya Sorokin of the New York Islanders, Connor Hellebuyck of the Winnipeg Jets, Ville Husso of the Detroit Red Wings and Pyotr Kochetkov of the Carolina Hurricanes.
Of Kuemper’s 28 shutouts, 10 have been with the Arizona Coyotes, seven have been with the Minnesota Wild, five have been with the Colorado Avalanche and three each with the Los Angeles Kings and Washington Capitals. In 2022-23, Kuemper has a record of 10 wins, nine regulation losses, and two losses in extra time, with a goals against average of 2.48 and a save percentage of .918.
Washington has now won five straight games. They are in third place in the Metropolitan Division with a record of 20 wins, 13 regulation losses, and four losses in extra time for 44 points.
