The Canadian duo of Daniel Dearing and Sam Schachter of Toronto, Ontario are in the round of 32 of the 2022 World Men’s Beach Volleyball Championships in Rome, Italy. On Tuesday, Schachter and Dearing beat Juan Ramon Virgen Pulido and Miguel Sarabia of Mexico 21-17, 21-16 in the fourth lucky loser playoff match.

Dearing and Schachter qualified for the game by finishing in third place in Pool B. We now know that Dearing and Schachter will now play Kusti Nolvak and Mart Tiisaar of Estonia in one of 16 knockout matches on Wednesday.

It has also been determined who the three Canadian women’s teams will play in the round of 32 on Wednesday. Brandie Wilkerson and Sophie Bukovec of Toronto, Ontario will face Worapeerachayakorn Kongphopsarutawadee and Taravadee Naraphornrapat of Thailand, reigning world champions Sarah Pavan of Kitchener, Ontario, and Melissa Humana-Paredes of Toronto, Ontario will face Taiana Lima and Hegeile Almeida of Brazil, and the Canadian twins of Megan and Nicole McNamara of Richmond, British Columbia are facing Claudia Scampoli and Margherita Blanchin of Italy.

Wilkerson and Bukovec simply cannot take Kongphopsarutawadee and Naraphornrapat lightly. Earlier on Tuesday, Canada was steamrolled by Thailand in straight sets in Women’s Volleyball Nations League in the Philippines. Brazil meanwhile is always tough in women’s beach volleyball no matter who takes the court, while the Italians will have home court advantage on their side.
