Cynthia Appiah wins World Cup women’s monobob bronze in Latvia

Cynthia Appiah of Toronto, Ontario won a bronze medal in a World Cup women’s monobob event in Sigulda, Latvia on Saturday. For Appiah, it was her eighth career World Cup women’s bobsled medal.

Appiah posted a time of 1:47.10. She was actually tied with Ying Qing of China, who also had a third place time of 1:47.10. Kaillie Humphries of the United States won the gold medal with a time of 1:46.52. Kim Kailicki of Germany won the silver medal with a time of 1:46.96.

This was the last World Cup women’s monobob race of the season. In the World Cup women’s monobob standings, Appiah finished in third place with 1506 points. Humphries was the World Cup women’s monobob champion with 1712 points. Laura Nolte of Germany was second with 1590 points.

There is no doubt this was a breakout season for Appiah in women’s bobsled, specifically women’s monobob. This was her fifth women’s monobob medal of the season as she also won a silver medal in Whistler, British Columbia, Canada on November 25, a bronze medal in Park City, Utah, United States on December 2, a bronze medal in Altenberg, Germany on January 14, and a bronze medal in Innsbruck, Austria on February 11. The bronze medal in Sigulda, will give her confidence as she prepares for the 2026 Olympic Winter Games in Milan/Cortina d’Ampezzo.
