Canadian connection to the 2023 NBA All-Star Game

The 2023 National Basketball Association All-Star Game takes place on Sunday from Vivint Arena in Salt Lake City, Utah. The game will feature one Canadian in Oklahoma City Thunder guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander of Toronto, Ontario, and one Toronto Raptors player in power forward Pascal Siakam. Gilgeous-Alexander will play for the Western Conference and Siakam will play for the Eastern Conference.

Gilgeous-Alexander was recently named the Western Conference Player of the Week fort the week from February 6-12. In three games, he averaged 31.3 points per game, 6.3 assists per game, and had a field goal percentage of .571 according to the Canadian Press. Gilgeous-Alexander’s best game of the week was when he had 44 points in a 138-129 Thunder win over the Portland Trail Blazers on February 10.

On the season, Gilgeous-Alexander is averaging 30.8 points per game, 5.7 assists per game, 1.6 steals per game, and 1.1 blocks per game. He has a field goal percentage of .508, a three point percentage of .343, and a free throw percentage of .912. Siakam meanwhile is averaging 25.2 points per game, 7.8 rebounds per game, and 6.1 assists per game. He has a field goal percentage of .482, three-point percentage of .343, and a free throw percentage of .765. Siakam has been a workhorse for the Raptors the last two seasons. In 2021-22, he led the NBA with 37.9 minutes per game, and in 2022-23 leads the NBA with 37.7 minutes per game.
