Logan Couture of Guelph, Ontario led the San Jose Sharks in scoring in game one of the 2019 National Hockey League Western Conference Final. On Saturday night at the SAP Center at San Jose, California, Couture notched three points (two goals and one assist) as the Sharks defeated the St. Louis Blues 6-3.
Couture was the first player in the game to score a goal as he beat Blues netminder Jordan Binnington at 3:31 of the first period from Gustav Nyquist and Timo Meier. Couture then had the lone assist on Meier’s game winning goal at 10:24 of the second period, which put the Sharks up 4-2 at the time. Then with 2:21 left in the third period, Couture scored the last goal of the game to put the Sharks up 6-3. Evander Kane of Vancouver, British Columbia and Joe Pavelski picked up the assists.
Couture was the only Canadian to score a goal for the Sharks in the contest. Meier of Switzerland also scored twice, while Americans Joe Pavelski and Kevin Labanc each scored once. It has been an excellent 2019 Stanley Cup playoff for Couture, as he leads all players with 11 playoff goals and 17 playoff points.
Couture was one of four Sharks to notch a multi-point game. Meier also had two goals and one assist for three points, while Pavelski and Nyquist each had two points. Pavelski had one goal and one assist, while Nyquist had two assists.
