Edmonton Oilers captain Connor McDavid of Richmond Hill, Ontario was named the National Hockey League Player of the Week for the week from November 28 to December 4 on Monday according to nhl.com. In four games, McDavid had five goals and six assists for 11 points.
McDavid opened the week with one goal and two assists for three points in a 4-3 Oilers win over the Florida Panthers on November 28. That was followed by one goal and one assist for two points in a 5-4 Oilers win over the Chicago Blackhawks on November 30, one goal and one assist for two points in a 5-3 Oilers loss to the Minnesota Wild on December 1, and two goals and two assists for four points in a 5-3 Oilers win over the Montreal Canadiens on December 3. In the week, McDavid was also a +5 with five power-play points, 18 shots on goal, one hit, one blocked shot, and 18 faceoff wins.
McDavid now has 22 goals and 26 assists for 48 points in 26 games. He is a +4 with 16 penalty minutes, 23 power-play points, one shorthanded goal, 101 shots on goal, 163 faceoff wins, nine blocked shots, 25 hits, 19 takeaways, and 32 giveaways. McDavid leads the NHL this season in assists and points.
In other Oilers news, former Oilers scout Barry Fraser of Kirkland Lake, Ontario died on Sunday at the age of 82. Fraser was the Oilers director of scouting from 1979 to 2000, and won five Stanley Cups in Edmonton in 1984, 1985, 1987, 1988, and 1990.
Meanwhile, around the NHL, the 5-3 Oilers loss to the Canadiens, was the first of two straight losses for Montreal on their Canadian west coast road trip. On Monday in Vancouver, the Canadiens blew a 4-0 lead after the first period, only to lose 7-6 to the Vancouver Canucks.
