For the second straight week, a Canadian player in the National Football League made a significant contribution to his team in an upset win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Last week, Chase Claypool of Abbotsford, British Columbia got the game winning touchdown catch for the Pittsburgh Steelers in a 20-18 Steelers win over the Buccaneers. Then on Sunday, Chuba Hubbard of Edmonton, Alberta had nine rushes for 63 rushing yards and one touchdown, along with two catches for 10 yards, as the Carolina Panthers upset the Tampa Bay Buccaneers 21-3. Hubbard’s touchdown was a 17-yard rush with three minutes and 11 seconds left in the third quarter, which put the Panthers up 14-0 at the time.

Last week the Steelers were 9.5 point underdogs against the Buccaneers. This week the Panthers were 13 point underdogs against the Buccaneers.

Hubbard got the start for the Panthers on Sunday, and will play a significant part in the Panthers’ offense for the remainder of the season. That is because on Thursday, the Panthers traded their star running back Christian McCaffrey to the San Francisco 49ers for a second, third, and fourth round pick in the 2023 National Football League Draft, and a fifth round draft pick in the 2024 NFL Draft.

On the season, Hubbard has 15 rushes for 97 yards and one touchdown and three catches for 11 yards. The Panthers improve to a record of two wins and five losses on the season.
