Christina Black delivers clutch wins en route to Scotties Final Four

In a remarkable stretch of high performance curling, Christina Black of Sydney, Nova Scotia won three consecutive games at the 2023 Scotties Tournament of Hearts in Kamloops. British Columbia in dramatic fashion. On Thursday night in her final game of Pool A play, she needed to beat Quebec, or her team would have been eliminated. Black’s team came through with a 7-6 win over Quebec’s Laurie St-Georges, with the game-winning point coming from a steal in the 10th end. It was deja vu in the first two draws on Friday. In the tie-breaker, Nova Scotia found themselves tied with the Wildcard One team skipped by Kaitlyn Lawes of Winnipeg at six points each after 10 ends. That is when Black stole a point in the extra end and won again 7-6. Then on Friday afternoon in the semifinals of the championship round, Black found herself trailing Ontario’s Rachel Homan 6-4 heading into the 10th end in another elimination game, when she picked up a deuce in the final end of regulation, and once again won by the score of 7-6 in 11 ends.

In other elimination games played on Friday, British Columbia beat Quebec 8-3 in the morning tie-breaker. BC was eliminated however following a 9-4 loss to Manitoba in the semifinals of the championship round.

Then on Friday night in the finals of the championship round, Manitoba beat Canada 8-6, and Northern Ontario beat Nova Scotia 6-3. On Saturday, Manitoba plays Northern Ontario in the 1-2 game and Canada plays Nova Scotia in the 3-4 game.
