Capitals trade centre Hendrix Lapierre to the Penguins

The Washington Capitals have traded centre Hendrix Lapierre of Gatineau, Quebec to the Pittsburgh Penguins according to TSN on Thursday. In return, the Capitals received a third round pick in the 2027 National Hockey League Entry Draft and a fifth round pick in the 2028 NHL Entry Draft.

Lapierre is joining his second NHL franchise. He played four seasons with the Capitals.

In 2025-26, Lapierre had four goals and 12 assists for 16 points. He had a zero plus/minus, with 31 penalty minutes, 53 shots on goal, 120 faceoff wins, 22 blocked shots, 49 hits, seven takeaways, and 34 giveaways.

Lapierre had two multi-point games in Capitals’s blowout wins over Canadian teams in 2025-26. He had two assists in an 8-4 Capitals win over the Montreal Canadiens on November 20, and then had one goal and one assist for two points in a 7-3 Capitals win over the Calgary Flames on March 9.

In four NHL seasons, Lapierre had 13 goals and 34 assists for 47 points in 158 games. He was a -2 with 41 penalty minutes, one game-winning goal, two power-play points, 129 shots on goal 271 faceoff wins, 69 blocked shots, 88 hits, 34 takeaways, and 71 giveaways. Lapierre’s one career game-winning goal came on November 18, 2023 in a 4-3 Capitals win over the Columbus Blue Jackets. Lapierre scored from Sonny Milano and Aliaksei Protas, which put the Capitals up 4-2 at the time with six minutes and 26 seconds left in the third period.
