The Montreal Canadiens are in round two of the 2021 Stanley Cup Playoffs. On Monday, they advanced to the North Division Final with a 3-1 win over the Toronto Maple Leafs from the Scotiabank Arena in Toronto, Ontario.

It is a little ironic that the Canadiens eliminated the Maple Leafs with a 3-1 score. That is because the Canadiens came back from a three games to one deficit to beat the Maple Leafs four games to three.

In game seven, the Canadiens got a multi-point game from Canadian Olympic gold medalist Eric Staal of Thunder Bay, Ontario. Staal, who won a gold medal for Canada at the 2010 Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver, had two assists for the Canadiens on Monday. Staal assisted on goals by two Canadians on the Canadiens, as Brendan Gallagher of Edmonton, Alberta, and Tyler Toffoli of Toronto, Ontario were able to shoot the puck past the Maple Leafs goal line.

The game-winning goal was scored by the Canadian Olympic gold medalist Corey Perry of Peterborough, Ontario at 15:25 of the second period. Perry, who won the gold medal for Canada at the 2010 Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver, and the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi, scored from Nick Suzuki of London, Ontario, and Erik Gustafsson.

The Canadiens will now play the Winnipeg Jets. That series will start Wednesday in Winnipeg.
