Canadians win two medals at 2024 Cup of China Figure Skating

Team Canada has won two medals at the 2024 Cup of China Figure Skating Grand Prix event in Chongqing. On Saturday, Marjorie Lajoie of Boucherville, Quebec, and Zachary Lagha of Greenfield Park, Quebec won the silver medal in the ice dance event, and Lia Pereira of Milton, Ontario, and Trennt Michaud of Belleville, Ontario won the bronze medal in the pairs event.

In the ice dance, Lajoie and Lagha had an overall score of 205.16 points. Charlene Guignard and Marco Fabbri of Italy won the gold medal with a score of 209.13 points. Christina Carreira and Anthony Ponomarenko of the United States won the bronze medal with a score of 198.18 points. Lajoie and Lagha reached the podium by 8.64 points over Olivia Smart and Tim Dieck of Spain, who finished in fourth place with a score of 196.52 points.

In the pairs, Pereira and Michaud posted a total score of 188.74 points. Sara Conti and Niccolo Macii of Italy won the gold medal with a score of 211.05 points. Minerva Fabienne Hase and Nikita Volodin of Germany won the silver medal with a score of 209.36 points. Pereira and Michaud reached the podium by 11.7 points over Ioulia Chtchetinina and Michal Wozniak of Poland, who finished in fourth place with a score of 177.04 points.

By winning silver, Lajoie and Lagha have qualified for the Grand Prix of Figure Skating Final in Grenoble, France starting on December 5. They are joined by ice dancers Piper Gilles of Toronto, Ontario, and Paul Poirier of Ottawa, Ontario, and pairs figure skaters Deanna Stellato-Dudek and Maxime Deschamps of Vaudreuil-Dorion, Quebec.
