Canada wins gold in Women’s 3×3 Basketball Series in France

Team Canada won the gold medal on Wednesday in the Women’s 3×3 Basketball Series in Poitiers, France. In the gold medal game, Canada defeated China 17-16. The Canadian team was comprised of Kacie Bosch of Lethbridge, Alberta, Paige Crozon of Humboldt, Saskatchewan, and twin sisters Katherine and Michelle Plouffe of Edmonton, Alberta. Katherine Plouffe was named tournament most valuable player.

Canada won Pool A on Tuesday after an 18-11 win over Azerbaijan and a 21-11 win over Italy. Then on Wednesday in the quarterfinals, Canada beat the United States 18-12, and in the semifinals, Canada beat Hungary 18-10.

In Canada’s win over Azerbaijan, Michelle Plouffe led Canada with seven points. Katherine Plouffe led Canada with nine rebounds and Bosch led Canada with three key assists. In Canada’s win over Italy, Crozon led Canada with nine points, Michelle Plouffe led Canada with eight rebounds, and Katherine Plouffe led Canada with three key assists. In Canada’s win over the United States, Crozon led Canada with seven points, Katherine Plouffe led Canada with five rebounds, and Michelle Plouffe led Canada with two key assists. In Canada’s win over Hungary, both Plouffe sisters led Canada with six points. Katherine Plouffe led Canada with 12 rebounds and four key assists. In Canada’s win over China, Michelle Plouffe led Canada with eight points and nine rebounds, and Katherine Plouffe led Canada with three key assists.

This was Canada’s second Women’s 3×3 Basketball Series medal this season. They won bronze earlier this month in Orleans, France. The gold medal for Canada will prepare them for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.
