Canada wins gold in rugby and canoeing at the 2019 Pan American Games

Team Canada won two gold medals this past weekend at the 2019 Pan American Games in Lima.On Saturday, Canada won the gold medal in the women’s K4 500 metres canoeing and on Sunday, Canada won the gold medal in the women’s rugby sevens.

In women’s 500 metre kayaking competition, Canada posted a winning time of 1:34.316. Mexico won the silver medal with a time of 1:34.646. Argentina won the bronze medal with a time of 1:35.606. Canada reached the podium by 6.495 seconds over Chile, who finished in fourth place with a time of 1:40.811. The Canadian team was comprised of Andreanne Langlois of Quebec City, Quebec, Alexa Irvin of Prince Rupert, British Columbia, Alanna Bray-Lougheed of Oakville, Ontario and Anna Negulic of Bedford, Nova Scotia.

In women’s rugby sevens, Canada won all five of their games in winning the gold medal. They went perfect with a record of three wins and zero losses in Pool B (beat Mexico 54-0, Peru 54-0 and Brazil 26-0) before beating Colombia 41-0 in the semifinal and the United States 24-10 in the final.

To date, Canada is third in the overall medal standings with 25 medals. They have won 14 silver medals and nine bronze medals. The United States and Mexico lead the way as they have each won 26 medals.
