Canada wins gold in men’s hockey at 2023 Winter Universiade

Team Canada won the gold medal in men’s hockey on Sunday at the 2023 Winter Universiade in Lake Placid, New York. In the gold medal game, Canada defeated the United States 7-2.

Team Canada had two players with multi-point games. They were University of New Brunswick defenseman Adam McCormick of Woodstock, New Brunswick, and St. Mary’s University center Andrew Coxhead of Bedford, Nova Scotia. McCormick had one goal and one assist for two points, and Coxhead had two assists for two points. The other six Canadian scorers were University of New Brunswick left winger Austen Keating of Guelph, Ontario, St. Francis Xavier University center Matthew Struthers of Milton, Ontario, University of Quebec-Trois Rivieres Zachary Lavigne of Drummondville, Quebec, Toronto Metropolitan University left winger Kyle Bollers of Oshawa, Ontario, University of Manitoba right winger Brett Davis of Oakbank, Manitoba, and Concordia University Tyler Hylland of Chateauguay, Quebec.

The 2023 Winter Universiade is now complete. Canada finished in sixth place in the overall medal standings with 13 medals (six gold medals, one silver medal, and six bronze medals). The five countries that were ahead of Canada were Japan with 48 medals, South Korea with 29 medals, France with 18 medals, while the United States and Poland each had 17 medals.
