
Team Canada has won the gold medal at the 2022 World Mixed Curling Championship in Aberdeen, Scotland on Saturday. The Canadian team was comprised of skip Jean-Michel Menard of Amos, Quebec, third Marie-France Larouche of Levis, Quebec, Ian Belleau of Etchemin, Quebec, and Annie Lemay of Trois-Rivieres, Quebec.
In the gold medal game, Canada defeated Scotland 7-4. After Canada and Scotland tied at four after the first four ends of the championship final. Canada stole a single point in the fifth, sixth, and seventh ends. In the quarterfinals, Canada beat Finland 9-6, and in the semifinals, Canada beat Switzerland 9-4. In the bronze medal game, Switzerland beat Sweden 6-4.
Canada was placed in Group A. They finished in second place with a record of seven wins and one loss. Their seven wins came over Denmark by a score of 8-1, Hong Kong by a score of 8-3, India by a score of 9-2, New Zealand by a score of 10-3, Portugal by a score of 7-4, Slovenia by a score of 12-2 and South Korea by a score of 7-6. The only Canada loss came against Finland by a score of 5-3. Canada got revenge against Finland in the more important knockout contest.
This was the third straight time that Canada won the gold medal at the 2022 World Mixed Curling Championship. In 2018 in Kelowna, British Columbia, Canada’s team was skipped by Mike Anderson of Richmond Hill, Ontario. In 2019 in Aberdeen, the Canadian team was skipped by Colin Kurz of Winnipeg, Manitoba.
