It was a historic Monday for Canada at the 2022 Olympic Winter Games in Beijing. For the first time ever, Canada has won a medal in ski jumping. The Canadian team of Alexandria Loutitt of Calgary, Alberta, Abigail Strate of Calgary, Alberta, Matthew Soukup of Calgary, Alberta, and Mackenzie Boyd-Clowes of Toronto, Ontario, posted a score of 844.6 points to win bronze in mixed team ski jumping, which was making its Olympic debut. The bottom line is that everyone expected Canada to win a medal in as mixed sport this week. It was just curling, and not the sport of ski jumping.

Slovenia won the gold medal with a score of 1001.5 points, and the Russian Olympic Committee won the silver medal with 890.3 points. Canada earned a medal by 8.3 points over Japan, which had a fourth place score of 836.3 points.

Canada was the beneficiary of several disqualifications. The disqualifications were given to Sara Takanashi of Japan, Daniela Iraschko-Stolz of Austria, Anna Odine Stroem of Norway, Silje Opseth of Norway, and Katharina Althaus of Germany. According to Ben Snowball of Eurosport, Opseth, Stroem and Althaus were all disqualified for suit violations. The competitors were disqualified for wearing suits that were too loose according to FOX Sports Australia. The fact there were so many disqualifications makes me think Norway, Germany, Japan and Austria could appeal the questionable decisions made by the ski jumping judges.

Canada is now in second place in the medal standings with six. They have one gold medal, one silver medal and four bronze medals. The Russian Olympic Committee have seven medals to lead the way.
