
Canada will be facing the United States for the Olympic gold medal in women’s hockey at the 2022 Olympic Winter Games in Beijing. On Sunday evening (Monday afternoon in Beijing), Canada trounced Switzerland 10-3 in one semifinal, and the United States beat Finland 4-1 in the other semifinal. The gold medal game will take place on Thursday at 9 p.m. MT.
The Canadian team continues to score at ease in the Olympic women’s hockey tournament. In the semifinal, Sarah Nurse of Hamilton, Ontario led the Canadian team in scoring with four assists for four points. Claire Thompson of Toronto, Ontario had one goal and two assists for three points, and Rebecca Johnston of Sudbury, Ontario had three assists. Other Canadians with a multi-point game were Marie-Philip Poulin of Beauceville, Quebec (two goals), Erin Ambrose of Keswick, Ontario (one goal and one assist), Blayre Turnbull of Stellarton, Nova Scotia (one goal and one assist), and Brianne Jenner of Oakville, Ontario (one goal and one assist). The other four Canadian goal scorers were Renata Fast of Hamilton, Emily Clark of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Emma Maltais of Burlington, Ontario, and Jamie Lee Rattray of Ottawa, Ontario.
Jenner’s goal was her ninth goal at the 2022 Olympic Winter Games in Beijing. She is now tied with Meghan Agosta of Windsor, Ontario, and Stefanie Marty of Switzerland for the most goals in a single Olympic women’s hockey tournament with nine. Agosta and Marty accomplished the feat at the 2010 Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver.
Meanwhile in NHL action on Sunday, Jeff Skinner of Markham, Ontario scored four goals in a 5-3 Buffalo win over Montreal. Meanwhile, Darcy Kuemper of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan made 23 saves for the shutout in a 4-0 Colorado Avalanche win over the Dallas Stars.
