Canada thumps Peru 28-2 in women’s water polo at 2019 Pan American Games

Team Canada came away with a 26 point win on Monday in women’s water polo at the 2019 Pan American Games in Lima, Peru. In their second game of the tournament, Canada throttled Peru 28-2. With the win, Canada improved to a record of two wins and zero losses.

The winner of the Pan American Games in women’s water polo will participate at the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo. However if the United States win the gold medal, then the silver medalist qualifies for next year’s Olympic Games because the United States have already qualified by winning the 2019 FINA World League.

In Canada’s win over Peru, Axelle Crevier of Montreal, Quebec and Emma Wright of Lindsay, Ontario led Canada in scoring with five goals each. Four Canadians had hat tricks as Kyra Christmas of High River, Alberta, Monika Eggens of Pitt Meadows, British Columbia, Shae Fournier of Winnipeg, Manitoba and Hayley McKelvey of North Delta, British Columbia each scored thrice. Canadians with two goal games were Krystina Alogbo of Riviere-des-Prairies, Quebec, Kelly McKee of Calgary, Alberta and Joelle Bekhazi of Montreal, Quebec.

In other women’s water polo action, Puerto Rico beat Venezuela 9-5, the United States beat Brazil 20-4 and Cuba beat Mexico 13-4. In men’s action on Monday, Team Canada lost 13-11 to the United States to fall to one win and one loss.
