Canada stuns United States in Women’s Volleyball Nations League

Team Canada had a win for the ages on Thursday night. For the first time ever, Canada defeated the United States in Women’s Volleyball Nations League action at Videotron Centre in Quebec City, Quebec. Team Canada won in straight sets by a score of 25-22, 25-22, 30-28.

It was a bounce back win for the Canadians. On Wednesday, Canada lost in four sets to Germany, 28-26, 22-25, 25-18, 25-18. Team Canada has improved to a record of one win and one loss.

In Canada’s win over the United States, three Canadians reached double digits in scoring. Opposite Kiera van Ryk of New Westminster, British Columbia led the Canadian attack with 17 points (12 attack points, four block points and one ace). Outside hitter Alexa Grey of Lethbridge, Alberta had 14 points (12 attack points and two aces), while captain and middle blocker Emily Maglio of Cranbrook, British Columbia had 13 points (eight attack points, four block points and one ace).

The United States are a powerhouse in women’s volleyball. They won an Olympic medal in women’s volleyball at the last five Olympic Games including a gold medal at the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo in 2021.

Canada will next face France on Saturday in Women’s Volleyball Nations League action. France lost their opening game in four sets to Japan on Wednesday.
