Canada reaches the gold medal game in men’s field hockey at the 2019 Pan American Games

Team Canada is in the gold medal game in men’s field hockey at the 2019 Pan American Games in Lima, Peru.On Thursday, Canada defeated Chile 3-2 in the second semifinal.

It was a memorable game for Scott Tupper of Vancouver, British Columbia. Tupper, who was the flag bearer for Canada in the opening ceremonies of the 2019 Pan American Games in Lima, scored two of Canada’s three goals including the game winning goal with 5:34 left in the fourth quarter which broke a 2-2 tie.

Gordon Johnston of Vancouver, British Columbia scored Canada’s other goal in the game. At the time, Johnston put Canada up 2-1 in the 43rd mark of the game.

Twice Chile came back after one goal deficits. Martin Hernan Rodriguez scored both of Chile’s goals with the first goal coming in the 23rd minute and the second goal coming in the 54th minute. Both of Rodriguez’s goals were field goals, while both of Tupper’s goals were from the penalty corner.

Canada will now play Argentina in the men’s field hockey gold medal game. Argentina beat the United States 5-0 in the other semifinal.

The gold medal game in men’s field hockey will take place on Saturday. It will be just one day after Canada will play Argentina in the gold medal game of the 2019 Pan American Games in women’s field hockey. The winners of each tournament qualify for the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo.
