Canada has qualified for the 2026 Davis Cup Finals in Bologna, Italy. On Saturday from the Videotron in Quebec City, Quebec, Felix Auger-Aliassime came through with a 4-6, 7-6, 6-4 win over Arthur Rinderknech of France. With Auger-Aliassime’s win, Canada defeated France three matches to one in the best of five series.
It was Auger-Aliassime’s second win on the weekend. He also defeated Quentin Halys 7-6, 4-6, 6-3 on Friday. Canada’s other win came from Liam Draxl of Newmarket, Ontario, who upset Rinderknech 6-2, 7-5 on Friday.
The only match France won in the best of five series came in men’s doubles. On Saturday, Benjamin Bonzi and Pierre-Hugues Herbert defeated Auger-Aliassime and Duncan Chan of Markham, Ontario 7-6, 6-3.
In Auger-Aliassime’s second win of the weekend on Saturday, he had the convincing statistical advantage when it came to aces and second serve points winning percentage. Auger-Aliassime had 17 aces and Rinderknech had seven aces. Auger-Aliassime had a second serve points winning percentage of 70% and Rinderknech had a second serve points winning percentage of 44%.
Auger-Aliassime won the second set tiebreak 7-5. He then broke Rinderknech in the ninth game of the third set.
Canada is one of six nations to have qualified for the Davis Cup Finals over the weekend so far. They are joined by Great Britain, Austria, Czech Republic, Germany and South Korea.
