Team Canada defeated Japan 34-20 on Friday at the 2026 Women’s Flag Football World Championships in Dusseldorf, Germany. With the win, Canada clinched first place in Group D with a perfect record of three wins and zero losses, and will now face Austria in the quarterfinals on Saturday.
Caroline Moquin-Joubert of Saint-Lambert, Quebec led Team Canada with two touchdown catches. Meanwhile, Marianne Quirion of Sherbrooke, Quebec, and Alexane Fournier of Saint-Jean-Sur-Richelieu, Quebec both had one touchdown catch, and Frederique Morneau of Quebec City, Quebec had one touchdown run. Meanwhile, quarterback Sara Parker of Greenfield Park, Quebec had four touchdown passes.
The other three women’s quarterfinal games will have Mexico versus Spain, the United States versus Germany and Great Britain versus Panama. Canada is looking for their third Women’s Flag Football World Championship title. They previously won in 2010 in Ottawa, Ontario, and in 2014 in Italy.
On the men’s side, Canada lost to Japan by a score of 37-28 on Friday, but still finished in second place in Group B with a record of two wins and one loss, and advanced to the quarterfinals. Their next opponent will be American Samoa. The other three quarterfinals games will have Italy versus Germany, Mexico versus Panama and Japan versus the United States. Canada previously won the gold medal at the 2008 Men’s Flag Football World Championship in St-Jean-Sur-Richelieu.
