Team Canada has reached the .500 mark at the 2022 Women’s World Volleyball Championships in Lodz, Poland. On Friday, Canada beat Bulgaria in four sets, 25-21, 25-27, 25-20, 25-15. This was Canada’s second win in two days as on Thursday, they defeated Kazakhstan in straight sets, 25-14, 25-16, 25-11.

In Canada’s win on Friday, four Canadians reached double digits in points. Opposite hitter Kiera Van Ryk of New Westminster, British Columbia led Canada with 22 points. Opposite hitter Alexa Gray of Lethbridge, Alberta had 19 points, opposite hitter Hilary Howe of Calgary, Alberta had 17 points, and middle blocker Emily Maglio of Cranbrook, British Columbia had 11 points. Brie King of Langley, British Columbia and Howe led Canada each with two blocks, and Maglio led Canada with three aces.

Canada is currently in fourth place in Pool C, behind Serbia, the United States and Germany. With the win, Canada has actually qualified for the second round, where they will play the top four teams in Pool B. Even though Canada has already advanced to the next stage, their game against Germany on Saturday is extremely important. That is because their result against Germany will carry over into the next round, and so far Team Canada does not have a win against a Pool C opponent that has advanced. Canada lost to Serbia and the United States to begin the Women’s World Volleyball Championship in the Netherlands.
