Cam Talbot records his 22nd career shutout

There is no doubt that Cam Talbot is having a bounce back season with the Calgary Flames. The native of Caledonia, Ontario recorded his 22nd career shutout on Sunday and second of the 2019-20 National Hockey League regular season as the Calgary Flames defeated the Florida Panthers 3-0 at the BB&T Center in Sunrise, Florida.

Talbot made 38 saves in the critical Flames victory. He made 10 saves in the first period, 16 saves in the second period and 12 saves in the third period. The Flames shutout the Panthers despite being outshot 38-28. Jonathan Huberdeau of Saint-Jerome, Quebec found himself around the Flames net frequently as he led the Panthers with seven shots on net.

Offensively for the Flames, Calgary was led in scoring by captain Mark Giordano of Toronto, Ontario. Giordano was involved in all three of the Flames goals as he had three assists for three points. Johnny Gaudreau also had a multi-point game as he had one goal and one assist for two points. The other Flames goal scorers were T.J. Brodie of Chatham, Ontario and Milan Lucic of Vancouver, British Columbia.

Talbot has a record of 10 wins, 10 regulation losses and one loss in extra time for the Flames this season. He has also seen his goals against average drop from last year’s 3.40 to this year’s 2.70, and his save percentage improve from last year’s .892 to this year’s .919. Talbot was with the Philadelphia Flyers and Edmonton Oilers in 2018-19. Talbot’s other shutout this season came in a 6-0 Flames win over the Anaheim Ducks on February 13.

Calgary is currently in third place in the Pacific Division with a record of 34 wins, 26 regulation losses and seven losses in extra time for 75 points. They currently lead the Arizona Coyotes by three points for a playoff spot.
