Calgary Roughnecks advance to 2023 NLL Western Final

The Calgary Roughnecks have advanced to the 2023 National Lacrosse League Western Final. On Saturday night at the Scotiabank Saddledome in Calgary, Alberta, the Roughnecks defeated the Panther City Lacrosse Club based out of Austin, Texas 12-9 in a single game knockout game to begin the NLL Playoffs.

Tyler Pace of Coquitlam. British Columbia led the Roughnecks offensive attack as he had eight points (four goals and four assists). Meanwhile, Jesse King of Victoria, British Columbia and Tanner Cook to Courtice, Ontario had six points each. King had three goals and three assists, and Cook had two goals and four assists. It was a notable game for Zach Currier of Peterborough, Ontario too, as he collected 10 loose balls.

The Roughnecks will now face the Colorado Mammoth in a best of three Western Final. The Mammoth upset the San Diego Seals 13-12 on Friday in the other West Division first round playoff matchup.

Calgary joins the Toronto Rock (who plays in Hamilton, Ontario) in the second round of the NLL Playoffs. The Rock are playing the Buffalo Bandits in the Eastern Final. The Rock beat the Halifax Thunderbirds 15-11 in one East Division playoff game on Friday, while the Bandits clobbered the Rochester Knighthawks 20-8 in the other East Division first round series.
